Gaana is one of the leading music streaming services in India and boasts of a relatively large user base. Micromax has now announced its investment in the company, which essentially means that we will get to see Gaana apps preloaded on future Micromax devices.
Talking about the strategic investment in Gaana, Rahul Sharma, Co-founder, Micromax Informatics Ltd, said, "We at Micromax have been consistently integrating the best in class services to our smartphones and are trying to build an ecosystem of connected devices in a connected world.
India is a music loving country and youth today are hooked on music for atleast 2-3 hours a day through their smartphones. Gaana brings the widest selection of songs across genres and we are proud to announce our strategic partnership with them to provide our neo users an uninterrupted access to latest tunes and transcend them into the world of music."
Given that Gaana saw an exponential increase in marketshare over the past one year, this move from Micromax makes complete sense. The service comes with ad supported streaming, while purchasing the Gaana+ subscription saves you the trouble of facing ads.
With this strategic partnership, it is said that future Micromax device owners will get a free subscription to Gaana+ for a limited period. In addition to enjoying music ad free, customers also have the ability to save files for offline playback, which is a pretty nifty feature to have.
The music provider has nearly 19 million songs in its library and includes most recent music as well, although some popular titles are exempt.
