Apple has released the fifth beta version of iOS 9.1 to users participating in the pre-release testing programs. The new build arrives as 13B137 and is compatible with any iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that runs iOS 9.
iOS 9.1 beta 5 can be downloaded now for public beta users and registered developers from the Over-the-Air update mechanism available in iOS, where it’s a roughly 1.5GB update. Additionally, developers can download IPSW of the latest beta build for specific devices from the Apple Developer center.
iOS 9.1 is said to focus on bug fixes and improvements, but the most noticeable user-facing additions are new emoji characters, like burrito and a middle finger gesture.
It’s unknown if iOS 9.1 will attempt to address the performance issues with iOS 9 that some users have observed on specific devices.
Though no public release timeline is known for the software update, it’s likely that iOS 9.1 will arrive to the general public later this month alongside the release of the new iPad Pro and Apple TV.
