Ericsson's flagship Mobility Report is now out and some interesting data has been published by the firm. While global mobile subscriptions were found to be growing at 5%, the Indian mobile subscriber count has increased by 13 million this past quarter, the report said.
The number could only increase over the coming days as manufacturers look to launch more devices perfectly suited for every demographic in the country.
The report also found that 5G networks will become a standard soon and will hit 150 million subscriptions by 2021.
Rima Qureshi, Senior Vice President & Chief Strategy Officer, Ericsson, says: "5G is about more than faster mobile services - it will enable new use cases related to the Internet of Things. For example, Ericsson has built a prototype testbed for applying 5G networking functions and data analytics to public transport, which can save resources, reduce congestion, and lower environmental impact. ICT transformation will become even more common across industries as 5G moves from vision to reality in the coming years."
The report found that YouTube accounts for over 70% of all the video traffic in the world, which is no surprise really. As for other major mobile markets, Ericsson's survey found that China will overtake the U.S. by the end of the year as the largest 4G LTE market in the world with more than 350 million subscribers, which is about 35% of the world's 4G LTE population. It is said that by 2021, China will have 1.2 billion 4G LTE subscribers.
